Allergens Testing for Food

An allergen is a substance, usually harmless to most people, that can cause adverse, sometimes deadly, reactions to specific individuals with allergies. As a result, the correct determination and identification of trace allergens in food is extremely important.

Neotron is able to determine the allergens listed in Annex II of the EU regulation 1169/2011 on different types of matrices. Other allergens included in other non-EU countries specific regulations can also be determined.

Our Analytical Services

The most known and commonly used techniques are Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (E.L.I.S.A.) and Real Time PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction), which target respectively proteins and DNA. The analytical package for allergen detection is completed by mass spectrometry (LC-MS / MS), an instrumental technique that plays a fundamental role in confirming E.L.I.S.A. and PCR results.

Digital PCR is an evolution of Real Time PCR that Neotron today proposes in an innovative way for the detection and quantification of allergens’ DNA. With this method it is possible to perform absolute quantifications of the target, reach lower detection limits, reduce the effect of potential inhibitors present in the matrices with a very high level of reproducibility.
