BPA in Food and Simulants

Neotron is ready to comply the next regulation

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a chemical used mainly in combination with other substances to produce certain plastics and resins. BPA is found in polycarbonate, a type of rigid, transparent plastic used to produce water dispensers, storage containers and reusable beverage bottles. The substance is also used to produce epoxy resins for use in films, can coatings and containers for drinks and food.

BPA is an endocrine disruptor that can mimic the action of estrogen to some extent, interfering with hormone levels and cellular signaling systems.

At high doses, it is toxic to reproduction and fetal development, while the scientific community is still discussing its effects at lower doses.

The European Commission is preparing a regulation to ban the use of bisphenol A (BPA) in food contact materials (FCM), including plastic and coated packaging, such as canned cans.

The Regulation will contain rules to replace bisphenol A and indications on transition.

The Neotron laboratory is already able to support customers in the determination of bisphenol A in FCM by LC/MS-MS and quantify it in extremely low concentrations up to 1ppb as migration from FCM into food and simulants.
